Over a thousand residents living in ‘back-to-back’ council properties in Leeds will benefit from a project which will make their homes warmer and better insulated.

A new service has launched in Leeds which will support some of the city’s most vulnerable women into long-term
accommodation.

Leeds City Council has expanded the support available to help low-income households in some of the city’s coldest homes stay warm for less. 

Senior councillors have approved plans to invest £7.2 million extending the city’s flagship district heating network by 2500 metres so that more buildings can enjoy the benefits of reliable, affordable, and low carbon heating.

630 properties in Leeds will see improvements in their energy and thermal efficiency thanks to a £9.6million grant from the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.

Senior councillors will discuss the city’s progress towards becoming a carbon neutral city at a meeting of the council’s executive board next week.

Work has now started on a £40million council housing development which will see the regeneration of Throstle Recreation Ground and the former Middleton Skills Centre in Leeds.

The green measures will help residents save money on energy bills and cut the city’s carbon footprint.

Leeds City Council has announced that St James’s Hospital, Quarry House and Trinity Academy will soon receive low carbon heat and hot water from the city’s district heating network. 

Eligible residents will be able to install energy saving technology—including solar panels, cavity wall insulation and, in some areas, external wall insulation—completely free of charge.
