Landmark occasion sees thousands dazzled by Light Night Leeds

The spectacular sights and sounds of Light Night Leeds returned to captivate crowds of thousands as this year’s annual cultural extravaganza got underway.

Many of the city’s most recognisable buildings and public spaces were completely transformed by a compelling programme of illuminated artworks from around the world during the first of the event’s two nights.

A captivating tribute to world famous Leeds invention Spirograph will prove a dazzling draw for visitors to next week’s Light Night Leeds.

Spirograph Reimagined, created by artists Lesley Halliwell and William Card, will celebrate 60 years since Denys Fisher invented the hugely popular drawing device, which uses geometric patterns to create elaborate spiral drawings.

A bow to The Duchess as museum toasts city’s music scene

A tribute to a legendary Leeds gig venue which hosted iconic acts Oasis and Nirvana is taking centre stage in a celebration of 60 years of the city’s music scene.

The Duchess of York on Vicar Lane, popularly known as The Duchess, was the setting for performances by some of the biggest names in rock and pop before closing its doors in 2000.

Now an impressive recreation of the historic pub is part of Music Leeds Us at Leeds City Museum, which looks back on six decades of unique musical heritage.
