On Friday 6 October, Mohammed Hussein, aged 10, from Ireland Wood Primary School was announced at the new children’s mayor of Leeds, by the Lord Mayor Councillor Al Garthwaite at a special event at Leeds Civic Hall.

A unique arts exchange project will see Europe’s cultural capital send a dazzling light installation to Leeds this week.

For this year’s spectacular Light Night, Leeds and Timisoara in Romania will each host stunning illuminated artworks created more than a thousand miles apart in cities both enjoying landmark cultural celebrations.

Infrastructure and equipment upgraded from analogue to digital

A classic case of not judging a book by its cover took librarians in Leeds on a fascinating photographic journey through a daring Antarctic rescue mission.

During routine cataloguing in Leeds Central Library’s strongroom, special collections librarian Rhian Isaac found what appeared to be an unassuming family photo album tucked away on a shelf.
