Due to adverse weather conditions across the winter months, a new timeline for Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme Phase 2 (FAS2) works in Apperley Bridge has been formulated. Steps have been taken to reduce the impact of temporary traffic management measures on Harrogate Road. 

The murals, painted by artist James Mayle and funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund celebrate heritage and wildlife, add vibrancy to the area and act as a deterrent for vandalism. 

Leeds City Council is progressing a variety of flood alleviation schemes to protect homes, businesses, and infrastructure across the city from the impacts of the climate emergency. As storm season continues, the council is urging everyone in Leeds to learn how they can prepare for flooding. 

Leeds City Council has today issued an update on the current known impacts of Storm Babet, which brought high winds and heavy rain between October 19-21 2023.  

Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme Phase 2 (LFAS2) works to protect areas of Apperley Bridge from flooding are progressing well, with the strengthening of Apperley Lane Bridge expected to be completed by Thursday 24 August.

The next phase of Leeds FAS2 works in the area will begin immediately afterwards and will require partial road closures in the area. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

Construction is underway to protect a section of railway by Kirkstall Bridge that has flooded several times in the past, most notably in the 2015 Boxing Day floods.
