Plan ahead for temporary closures to Crown Point Road over the next two weekends

Connecting Leeds Highways Transport

Leeds City Council are urging motorists to plan ahead for two consecutive weekends due to temporary closures on Crown Point Road during the day.

From 8am to 6pm on Saturday 25 March and Sunday 26 March and again on Saturday 1 April and Sunday 2 April, Crown Point Road will be closed. This will be at its junction with (A61) Great Wilson Street / Hunslet Road to Bowman Lane / Black Bull Street junctions to undertake carriageway resurfacing work.

Vehicles will not be allowed to use Crown Point Road whilst the road is closed. A full local diversion route for all traffic will be in place during this time. The route is for vehicles to travel via South Accommodation Road/East Street or Meadow Lane/Victoria Road/Great Wilson Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the road closure area. Local residents and businesses have been contacted. There will be no vehicular access to the works area of Crown Point Road even for access.

Leeds City Council’s Connecting Leeds team are working hard to deliver these improvements as quickly as possible and apologise for any disruption to journeys over the coming weeks.

These works are part of the council’s plans to regenerate the city’s South Bank which will provide 8,000 new homes and 35,000 new jobs, new educational establishments, and a new city park.

The project also complements several other improvements in the area, including the completion of the David Oluwale Bridge and ongoing transformation of Meadow Lane, with more space for walking, cycling and bus facilities being created as part of the upcoming Aire Park development – a mixed-use district with the UK’s largest new city centre green space at its heart.

Leeds City Councillor Helen Hayden, executive member for infrastructure and climate, said:

“The works on Crown Point Road and around City Square represent major changes for the highway network in the city centre. We are working hard to manage this as effectively as possible, minimising disruption and ensuring the safety of those working on site and members of the public.

"At the same time, we would like to thank those who have begun using different routes or changed the way they travel into the city centre.

“It is important that motorists plan ahead their journey in advance and consider either alternative routes or methods of travel. If you do travel along this route by car, you must follow the planned diversionary route and allow extra time for your journey. Thank you for your patience as we continue to transform travel in your city.”
