Marsh Lane partly closed this weekend for district heating installation work
Marsh Lane is to be partly closed this weekend to allow work to take place on the creation of the Leeds PIPES district heating network.
The road will be closed northbound from 8pm on Friday 27 July until 5am on Sunday 29 July to allow for pipes to be installed as part of the project being carried out by Leeds City Council and Vital Energi to carry heat from the Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility (RERF) to provide hot water for heating in local households and businesses in east Leeds.
Southbound traffic will be unaffected, and full traffic management in place with a diversion and signage for road users to follow.
This element of the work is being carried out over the weekend to minimise disruption as much as possible. It will involve excavating the road outside the Co-Op Funeral Home, with digging from 8pm on Friday until midnight, before recommencing at 8am on Saturday morning.
The pipe itself will then be installed, followed by welding and jointing works. Work to then reinstate the road will take place, with Marsh Lane expected to be able to reopen fully by 5am on Sunday morning. Local businesses and property owners have been informed of this work taking place.
The Leeds PIPES scheme is a Leeds City Council-led project working with Vital Energi. The project has received investment from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) through the Leeds City Region Growth Deal – a £1 billion package of government investment to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region.
