Market in your calendar- Christmas is coming back to Leeds

Last year the city welcomed the new market for the first time, with hundreds of thousands of people flocking to Leeds to experience some fabulous festive cheer.

After listening to detailed feedback from visitors and traders last year, the market will primarily be located on City Square and the Millennium Square area this year, and will also feature pop-up musical performances and a selection of Christmas food and drink, along with seasonal outdoor bars on City Square, Victoria Gardens and Millennium Square.

Visitors can look forward to discovering a variety of festive stalls selling unique gifts, crafts, and delicious treats from around the world.

A weekend artisan market from Little Bird will also be held on Bond Court (off Park Row), celebrating independent producers and makers every Saturday and Sunday while the Christmas market is taking place.

This year’s Christmas market will also run alongside the popular Ice Cube at Christmas ice skating rink on Millennium Square and Victoria Gardens.

The market will be operated by Market Place, the UK’s largest Christmas market operator and delivered at no cost to Leeds City Council. More details around the market will be released in the coming months.

Nirmal Bassi, market manager, said: “After carefully considering feedback from both visitors and traders, we’ve made exciting improvements to the market layout. We’re delighted to be back, bringing the festive sights, sounds, and aromas of Christmas to the city.”

Councillor Jonathan Pryor, Leeds City Council’s deputy leader and executive member for economy, transport and sustainable development, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming the Christmas market back to Leeds after such an exciting and successful debut year last year.

“The festive season is always a very special time in Leeds, and it’s great to see thousands of people coming together to experience Christmas at the heart of the city and making such great use of the newly redeveloped City Square space.”
