Council congratulates local heroes named in New Year Honours List
Leeds City Council today passes on heartfelt congratulations and thanks to all the local figures recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List.
A host of famous names and unsung heroes from the city have been honoured for the outstanding contributions they have made to communities and lives, both in Leeds and beyond.
From the sporting world, Leeds cyclists Tom Pidcock and Katy Marchant have been awarded an OBE and MBE respectively following their medal-winning performances at the 2024 Olympics.
Paul Caddick, the chairman of Leeds Rhinos and founder of the Caddick Group property and construction business, has been made an MBE for services to sport.
Others taking their place on the list include:
- The University of Leeds’s Professor Paul Stewart, who has received a CBE for services to medical science;
- Liesel Carter, who has received an OBE for services to education and remembrance through her work with the Leeds-based Holocaust Survivors’ Friendship Association;
- Dave Paterson, founder of the Unity in Poverty Action charity, who has received an OBE for services to disadvantaged people in Leeds.
Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council, said:
“On behalf of everyone at the council, I would like to send heartfelt congratulations to the many and varied local figures who have been named in the King’s New Year Honours List.
“Leeds is a very special city and that is in no small measure down to the achievements and talents of the people who live and work here.
“All those on the honours list should feel extremely proud of the contributions they have made and continue to make to local life.
“We at the council are hugely grateful for everything you do and I’m sure that sentiment will be shared today right across the city.”
