Temporary closure of Thorp Arch Bridge for flood damage repairs

Flooding

Thorp Arch Bridge, over the River Wharfe near Wetherby is to be temporarily closed over two nights later this month.

As a result of Storm Eva last Boxing day, some repairs are required to the pier foundations and additional works will be carried out to prevent potential further damage by flood water.

Thorp Arch Bridge, which is grade two listed, will be closed on the evenings of Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 of March from 10pm until 4am the following morning. A full diversion will be in place.

A spokeswoman for Leeds City Council said:

“These essential repairs will be carried out overnight for when traffic levels are low. However we do apologise for any delays or inconvenience experienced as a result of these works.”
