Putting Fun into fundraising at the Ice Cube

Leeds Ice Cube is hosting a charity ice skating fundraiser for Day One Trauma. There’s a chance to join in wearing your favourite onesie or fancy dress and create a giant conga on the ice. The event on the evening of 19 February 2015 from 20:30 to 22:00 includes a free snow slide and ice skating.

The event came about when one of the regular Ice Cube ice marshals suffered a serious motor bike injury a few years ago and joined the fundraising committee for the Day One Trauma charity at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Lewis Towning said:

“I came up with the idea as I owe a lot to the hospital and the charity for the support they gave me and my family, as well as having seen the huge difference they make in other people’s lives.

“I’m looking forward to a really good night out where people can have great fun and support an excellent cause. And don’t worry if you don’t have a onesie - just come down and have some fun!”

Councillor Lisa Mulherin, Chair of Leeds Health and Wellbeing Board, said:

“This is a great chance to support a great charity. The hospitals in Leeds do an amazing job, week in and week out. The extra help Day One Trauma give means individuals and families having a better experience on the road to recovery, which is immensely valuable.”

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council executive member for tourism, said:

“We are really happy to back this event. When Lewis asked for support, he thought he might have been skating on thin ice, but it was snow problem at all!

“He has worked really hard to get everything up and running and it is great that the council has been able to help out. I hope other people join in, have fun and we can raise money and awareness.”
