‘Our Big Gig’ to take centre stage at city library

The calm and serenity of a city centre library is set to be broken this Saturday as a popular celebration of music event rolls into Leeds.

Held on Saturday 11 July 2015 from 11.00 am - 4.00 pm, Leeds Central Library will once again, for the third year running, be the host for the ‘Our Big Gig’ festival, which has captured the imagination of music lovers of all ages and different tastes.

Featuring in this year’s programme will include performances from The Leeds Youth Percussion Ensemble, The North Leeds String Orchestra, and ever popular multi-instrumentalist Tim Moon. In what promises to be something not to be missed, Tim will be showcasing and demonstrating a range of traditional European music and instruments.

For those people who consider themselves a bit of a musical brainbox, they can test their knowledge in a ‘Match the Composer’ quiz, with the winner earning a goodie bag kindly provided by sponsor Europe Direct.

Youngsters aged under eight can enjoy a noisy story time from 2pm-3pm in the children’s library, while older kids can sign up for this year’s Record Breakers Summer Reading Challenge. A chance to win various goodies and prizes will also be available to all those that sign up on the day.

Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council's executive member for communities, said:

“Our Big Gig has proved to be a big hit with people of all ages since we began hosting the event at Leeds Central Library two years ago, and we are really looking forward to the arrival of this year’s festival on July 11.

“A range of events and activities will again be featuring in the programme including live performances from local musicians and groups, a quiz and, for the younger children, a noisy story time!”

Notes to Editors:
