Unleash your inner superhero for the Lord Mayor’s charity

Lord Mayor of Leeds

Unleash your inner superhero and show your secret superpowers to raise money for the Lord Mayor of Leeds Charity Appeal Just One Day event, which returns on Friday 13 February.

‘Just One Day’, which is in its ninth year, raises money through people spending a day or any amount of time they can spare, participating in fun activities to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity.

This year, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Dan Cohen, has chosen Leeds Mencap.

Leeds Mencap is a local, independent charity supporting children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and other additional needs to feel valued, supported and equipped to thrive.

In recognition of Leeds Mencap’s vital work in the city, the theme of this year’s Just One Day is ‘unleash your inner superhero’, chosen to celebrate the unique strengths associated with autism.

Any individual or organisation, big and small, is welcome to get involved and raise vital funds for this worthy cause.

There are no rules on how people can raise money, and events do not have to take place on 13 February and can be planned for any time throughout the year.

The Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal has again partnered with Child Friendly Leeds to deliver a comprehensive package of play plans, lessons, and assembly activities for schools across the city to get involved, raise money and learn at the same time.

This year’s Just One Day theme supports work by Child Friendly Leeds to help every child and young person feel included and valued. This is especially important, as children have told Child Friendly Leeds that celebrating differences and listening to their voices really matters.

Whether it is wearing fancy dress to work or school, organising a sponsored event, or even holding a bake-off, all ideas and efforts are welcome. The more fun, the better. Don’t forget to share your fundraising stories and activities on social media by tagging @LordMayorLeeds on Twitter or using the hashtag #JustOneDay2026.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Dan Cohen, said: “Just One Day is an incredible event that provides the opportunity for everyone in Leeds to come together, get creative with fundraising ideas and have some fun, whilst also raising money for a fantastic cause.

“Every penny raised will allow the Leeds Mencap to continue their vital work in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs across our wonderful city.

“Whether you decide to organise an event or donate, please spread the word about the important work of this incredible charity. I can’t thank you enough for your support.”
