Treats in store as Leeds gets ready for a frightfully fun Halloween

A spooky cast of zombies, witches and skeletons will be breaking out some terrifyingly good dance moves all across Leeds this Halloween.

The animated characters will pop up in locations around the city as part of a new interactive trail, specially-created for the scariest time of year on the free Love Exploring app.

Over the half term, visitors to the city centre as well as Roundhay, Middleton and Cross Flatts parks can watch the digital dance routines on their mobile device as well as finding out some fascinating facts about Halloween.

The trail is part of a huge programme of ghoulishly good events taking place all around the city throughout the school holidays.

At Temple Newsam, visitors can discover more about some of the historic spectres who roam the halls of the mansion as well as exploring Home Farm and hearing tales of the ghosts which haunt the estate. Events are until October 31.

At Leeds Industrial Museum, one of the UK’s smallest cinemas will be screening some Halloween family favourites each day until October 31 at 2pm, with the film included in museums admission.

At Thwaite Watermill a Halloween trail will invite visitors to track down ghastly creatures around the watermill and work out the magical spell they’ve created. Trails are included within the cost of admission and will be available right through the week, from Tuesday until Sunday.

The atmospheric ruins of Kirkstall Abbey will be the backdrop for a family friendly walk filled with creepy creatures and spooky statues until October 31, while Abbey House Museum’s Victorian streets will be spookily decorated for Halloween.

Lotherton’s hugely popular skeletons trail will also take little explorers around the estate, into the haunted house and to see the bats in the new nocturnal house. Pre-booking is advised.

Councillor Jonathan Pryor, Leeds City Council’s deputy leader and executive member for economy, culture and education, said: “After such a tough year for the city, there’s been so much imaginative and creative work going on behind the scenes to make sure there’s lots of seasonal fun for families and young people in Leeds to enjoy over the next few months.

“Halloween will give everyone a chance to explore some of the city’s most historic and beautiful locations in a completely new way and it’ll be great to see everyone coming together.”
