Tour de Yorkshire fans guaranteed a warm welcome in Leeds

A crew of volunteers will be on hand this Sunday to help visitors and spectators in Leeds have a fantastic experience of the Tour de Yorkshire.

With large crowds expected for the race finale at Roundhay Park, the yellow-clad Leeds City Ambassadors will help people to get to where they need to be in order to enjoy the climax of the three stage race.

Activities will be taking place at Roundhay Park throughout the day and people are encouraged to plan ahead to get the best out of the day. 

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills said:

“The Leeds City Ambassadors will play a vital role this weekend by providing a warm and well-informed welcome to people arriving in the city to enjoy the Tour de Yorkshire.

"They do an amazing job, and I would like to thank them for volunteering their time and for their outstanding enthusiasm and passion for Leeds."

David Israel, who has been a Leeds City Ambassador for 18 months said:

"I was proud to be a Leeds Ambassador at the Tour de France last year, and to do so again for the Tour de Yorkshire, in my local park, is fantastic. The event builds Leeds' reputation as an important centre for sporting and cultural activities, and gives me chance to share my pride and passion about Leeds with visitors."

Ai Lyn Tan, who started volunteering for Leeds City Ambassadors last year said:

“Participating as a Tour Maker at last year’s Tour de France really gave me the volunteering bug! The atmosphere in Yorkshire was electric, and the Tour de Yorkshire is promising to be another spectacular event. As a Leeds City Ambassador, I am excited to help showcase one of Europe's biggest city parks as it hosts the finish of Europe's newest cycle race!”

Leeds City Ambassadors is a volunteer-led scheme, supported by Leeds City Council, which provides a personal welcome for both residents and visitors to the city. By providing an excellent visitor experience, the aim is to raise the profile of the city, encouraging investment, trade, and tourism, so that Leeds will be regarded as a vibrant, dynamic and competitive city both locally and globally.
