Statement from leader of Leeds City Council Cllr Judith Blake regarding Tour de Yorkshire announcement today

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council said:

“I’m absolutely delighted that the Tour de Yorkshire’s women’s race will be starting in Otley and will include our very own home grown world champion, Lizzie Armitstead.

“It is also great news that the profile of women’s cycling is being given the recognition it rightly deserves, right here in Yorkshire. We have an amazing tradition in women’s cycling dating back to the wonderful Beryl Burton, and we can’t wait for the event to take place later this year.”
