Show your love for Leeds and raise money with Just One Day

Lord Mayor of Leeds

The Lord Mayor of Leeds Charity Appeal ‘Just One Day’ event is returning on Friday 17 May, with the whole city being encouraged to get involved.

‘Just One Day’, which is in its seventh year, raises money through people spending a day or any amount of time they can spare, participating in fun activities to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity. This year, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Al Garthwaite, has chosen the Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service as her charity.

Since 1982 the Women’s Counselling & Therapy Service (WCTS) has offered free therapy and support for women and girls living in Leeds, with the mission to increase general awareness of women’s mental health. WCTS also works to reduce stigma and shape national strategies to improve women’s lives both in Leeds and across the UK. Last year alone, WCTS provided one-on-one help for over 550 women and demand for their services continues to grow.

From individuals to organisations big and small, everyone is encouraged to get involved and raise vital funds for this worthy cause. There are no rules to how people can raise money and events do not have to take place on the 17 May and can be planned for any time throughout the year.

Whether it's wearing fancy dress to work or school, organising a sponsored event, or even holding a bake-off, all ideas and efforts are welcome. The more fun, the better. Don’t forget to share your fundraising stories and activities on social media by tagging @LordMayorLeeds on Twitter or using the hashtag #JustOneDay2024.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Al Garthwaite, said: “‘Just One Day’ is my favourite event of the year and a great opportunity for everyone to come together, get creative with fundraising ideas and have some fun, whilst also raising money for a fantastic cause.

“Every penny raised will allow the Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service to continue their vital work, supporting low-income Leeds women and girls through tough times with their mental health to find a better and happier future.

“Whether you decide to organise an event or donate, please spread the word about the important work of this incredible charity. I can’t thank you enough for your support.”
