Opening hours of Garforth Leisure Centre extended due to demand

The opening hours of a popular outer east Leeds leisure centre have been significantly extended from this week.

As part of the new schedule, service users will now be able to use all of the facilities at Garforth Leisure Centre from 6am-10pm on Monday-Friday. Previously, the opening hours at the facility from Monday-Friday were 8.30am-10pm (Monday and Wednesday), 4pm-10pm (Tuesday and Thursday) and 8.30am-10pm (Friday). At the weekend, the leisure centre will now also open earlier on both Saturday and Sunday from 8am. In total, the leisure centre will now be open 27.5 hours more per week than previously.

The decision by Leeds City Council to revamp the opening hours follows an increase in the number of people regularly using the centre over the last year, and also reflects the views of many service users who had indicated they would like to see the facilities at Garforth be made available for longer, especially from Monday-Friday.

A range of facilities are available at Garforth Leisure Centre including a 43 station gym, aerobic and workout studio, six squash courts and five badminton courts. A variety of exercise and dance classes are also held throughout the week. Councillor Mohammed Rafique, Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment and active lifestyles, said:

“We are continuing to work extremely hard to ensure that what we have on offer at our individual leisure centres are tailored to the individual demands of service users and also the communities that they serve. Over the past year we have seen an increased demand at Garforth Leisure Centre, and with this in mind, and having listened closely to the views of service users, we have therefore taken the decision to extend the opening hours of the centre by an extra 27.5 hours per week. This means that Garforth is now open 6am -10pm on a Monday-Friday and also from 8am on Saturday and Sunday, which is really fantastic news for all our customers.

“We have some truly tremendous facilities on offer at Garforth from squash and badminton courts to a 43 station gym and a range of fun exercise and exercise classes. With the revised opening hours already now in operation, this is therefore the perfect time in which to pay us a visit and see what is available at Garforth Leisure Centre.”
