Online ‘warm spaces’ map to help residents in Leeds goes live
Locations offering support during the winter months
An online map showing the locations of ‘warm spaces’ in Leeds to help people with the cost of living crisis has gone live today.
The map, which can be seen at Warm Spaces Public app - embed (arcgis.com), shows the venues across the city which people are able to visit to keep warm to reduce their home energy costs during the winter months, engage in activities provided and also to access services including free advice and guidance.
The map initially shows the Leeds City Council-managed venues of community hubs and libraries, where a warm welcome will include free hot refreshments and activities for children and families in addition to the existing services of free access to books, computers and wi-fi.
Further support and free financial guidance is also available in all council-managed community hubs on housing, council tax and benefits.
The council is working with partners across the city, including third sector and faith groups, to add additional locations which will appear on the map when they have been confirmed. If any organisation or group in the city wishes to offer further locations for consideration they can do so by completing the online form at Warm Spaces (leeds.gov.uk).
Leeds City Council executive member for communities Councillor Mary Harland said:
“We are very pleased to have the online map now live, showing the locations where people can go to keep warm, access services and get free guidance and advice to save money and keep their costs down this winter.
“As a council we are keen to work with any group or organisation who wishes to help offering additional locations across the city so we can all help each other and especially our most vulnerable residents to keep safe and well in the challenging months to come.”
The support available in Leeds can also be seen online at the council’s dedicated webpage at www.leeds.gov.uk/costofliving. This includes help across key areas such as food services, health, housing, water and jobs. Low-cost or free events and activities especially those for children and families can be seen via Leeds Inspired at www.leedsinspired.co.uk
Leeds City Council is also working in partnership with Zero Waste Leeds on a winter coat appeal, to ensure good quality warm second-hand winter coats are available to everyone. For more information on that visit Announcing the Leeds Winter Coat Appeal - Zero Waste Leeds
