Older, wiser, smarter and online

From harnessing the power of wearables - clothing and accessories which incorporate computer and advanced electronic technologies - to participating in the sharing economy, Leeds is continuing to pioneer innovative workshops offering a chance to explore new digital skills for an Age Friendly Smart City.

The latest interactive community sessions are running at the start of December and anyone interested is being invited to sign up and come along.

Councillor Lisa Mulherin, Leeds City Council executive member for health, wellbeing and adults, said:

“We want to encourage older residents and their families, friends and companions to try out new types of IT skills. In running these sessions we are building on the success and learning from our previous community workshops.

“I hope people will explore what we are offering and book into a session, take an opportunity to learn new skills and understand how they can be in charge of emerging technologies.”

Dr Ian Cameron, Leeds City Council Director of Public Heath, said:

“These new workshops from a range of experts will focus on wearable devices, social networking and the sharing economy. People can get involved in hands-on activities which will help them understand how they can benefit from these digital tools and the information they provide.

“To make the most of these new sessions, we have improved what is being offered, for instance with the events open to everyone and making sure sessions are hosted outside of the city centre.”

Sessions take place during the first week of December:

1st December, Reginald Centre, Chapeltown Road

2nd December, MAECare, Moor Allerton

4th December, Strawberry Lane Community Centre, Armley.
