New political make-up of Leeds City Council

As a result of the local elections in Leeds which saw all 33 wards contested and one councillor elected per ward (except Horsforth and Roundhay wards where two seats were contested and two councillors subsequently elected in each), the new make-up of the city council is as follows:

Overall political composition (99 seats in total):

Labour [LAB]: 58 seats (including two formerly vacant seats)

Conservative [CON]: 21 seats

Liberal Democrats [LD]: 7 seats

Morley Borough Independents [MBI]: 6 seats

Garforth and Swillington Independents Party [GSIP]: 3 seats

Green [GR]: 3 seats

Social Democratic Party [SDP]: 1 seat

The provisional turnout figure for the city was 33.76 per cent.

Following the election, Labour remain in control of Leeds City Council.
