New Lord Mayor elect revealed

Councillor Judith Chapman has been confirmed as the Lord Mayor elect for 2015/2016.



Announced this month by the current Lord Mayor of Leeds Cllr David Congreve, Cllr Chapman will, subject to approval from fellow councillors, officially become the 122nd person to hold the historic office following a special council meeting on May 21 2015.



Married to Alan, with two grown up children Harriet and Ben, Judith, who has represented the Weetwood ward as a Liberal Democrat city councillor since 2006, was brought up in the Roundhay area of Leeds and currently lives in Chapel Allerton. During her time as a councillor, Judith has previously chaired the adult social care scrutiny board and currently the children’s and families scrutiny board



After gaining a Bachelor Education Degree and Diploma of Education at Didsbury College of Education in Manchester, Judith taught both in London and at Bedford Field Middle School in Leeds before going onto work in the family clothing business.



An active member of the Jewish community in the city, Judith has a real interest in mental health and adult social care issues, especially in regard to helping people with learning difficulties.



Details of Cllr Chapman’s chosen charity as Lord Mayor will be announced after the special meeting in May.
