New community hubs officially opened in Horsforth, Rothwell and Kippax
Three more community hubs have officially opened their doors in Leeds this month.
As part of Leeds City Council’s vision to provide a range of important local services under one roof in areas across the city, residents living in Horsforth, Rothwell and Kippax now have the opportunity to discover the wealth of information and advice available in their very own local community hub.
Services which are on offer at all three sites include the opportunity to receive assistance regarding council tax and benefit issues, a registrar service available on appointment to record births, deaths and marriages, job shops and library and internet facilities. All three community hubs will also be the venue for Leeds City Credit Union advice shops and a series of pop-up events and activities offering help and support on a wide range of local issues.
Each community hub will also provide individual services in each of the areas they serve. At Horsforth this will include the opportunity to receive individual money advice, while Rothwell will host a Connect for Health advice service and provide a point where hate crime can also be reported. The chance to join a readers group will also be available at Kippax community hub.
The introduction of community hubs sits aside wider plans by the council to also consolidate its city centre services into four city centre buildings – Leeds Civic Hall, Enterprise House, Merrion House and St George House. Forming part of this strategy will be the introduction of a customer hub at Merrion House in 2018, which supporting the local community hubs in areas across Leeds, will provide somewhere in the city centre which people can use for advice and support on council services and also help save them potentially multiple visits.

Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, said:
“Making important local services more accessible to residents living in communities across the city remain a key ambition of the council, and it is great news therefore to see three more of our community hubs open in Horsforth, Kippax and Rothwell.
“Offering a wide range of information, advice and support under one roof, our community hubs are a fantastic local resource for residents. On offer is help with issues such as benefits and council tax, along with the opportunity to find out what is available through the Leeds City Credit Union and job shops. With so much available, we would urge people in all of our communities with a local hub to if they have not already, pop down and take a look.”
