New Aireborough Leisure Centre facilities set to be showcased later this month

The final results of a significant refurbishment programme at a popular north west Leeds leisure centre are set to be officially unveiled later this month.

Following the revamp, visitors will be able to enjoy a host of new facilities at Aireborough Leisure Centre from Saturday, 28 September. On offer will include a retiled pool and pool hall, including new windows, and a village style changing room suitable for groups and families boasting modern cubicles, showers and toilets. A Changing Places facility catering for disabled users has also been introduced, whilst those participating in classes at the leisure centre, will be able to use a new, modern spin room. To improve further the visitor experience at the centre, the customer service reception and entrance has been enhanced, and nearly 30 spaces added to the car park.

Leeds City Council has set out the key aim to bring important local services under one roof, and following the refurbishment, a new Community Hub, featuring a new library and café, will also be opening at the leisure centre from 28 September. Through the Community Hub, local residents in and around Guiseley will be able to access information regarding a variety of different services including as council tax, benefits and housing and access to job shops.

Due to the age, design and layout of the building, only dry-side facilities have been available at Aireborough since the refurbishment began. The council would like to thank the local residents of Guiseley and all users of the leisure centre for their support and patience whilst this work has taken place.

Councillor Mohammed Rafique, Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment and active lifestyles, said:

“In what continues to be a hugely competitive market, it is absolutely vital that we offer at all of our leisure centres’ excellent and modern facilities for local residents and our service users.

“I am delighted therefore that we have now completed our wide-ranging refurbishment programme at Aireborough Leisure Centre, and that the public will be able to enjoy all of the new improvements from 28 September. Included as part of the work are a new retiled pool and pool hall, café, a revamped customer services reception, modern changing rooms and also a Changing Places facility, which is a significant and extremely important addition to support our disabled users.”

Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, said:

“It is wonderful news that our new Community Hub and library will be opening at Aireborough Leisure Centre later this month.

“The development of our Community Hub programme is a key element of our vision to offer integrated, accessible services at the heart of local communities. It is fantastic therefore that local residents in and around Guiseley will be able to benefit and access a mixture of important services under one roof at Aireborough, from housing to council tax, to job shops.”
