The Lord Mayor of Leeds Cllr David Congreve is urging local residents, businesses, community groups and organisations to spare ‘Just One Day’ this Friday to raise money for his charity appeal.

Whether it is organising a sponsored event, wearing fancy dress, donating a proportion of sales from an activity or even organising a cake sale, the Lord Mayor of Leeds Cllr David Congreve is asking the people of Leeds to show their support for his chosen charity this year, the Leeds Children’s Hospital Appeal on Friday, 24 April 2015.

In what will be the first official ‘Just One Day’ of action to be held in the city on behalf of the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal, people raising money can be guaranteed that every penny will be given to the Leeds Children’s Hospital who do such an amazing job day-in, day-out, looking after young people. All donations will be used to help fund a range of improvements, from the buying of new state-of-the-art equipment to brightening up wards and family rooms.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor David Congreve said:

"It would be absolutely fantastic if the very generous people of Leeds could spare anytime this Friday, 24 April to raise money for my chosen charity this year the Leeds Children’s Hospital as part of the first official ‘Just One Day’ campaign to be held in our city.

"Any donation however small will be gratefully received, and you can be guaranteed that every penny which is collected will be given to the Leeds Children’s Hospital who care so brilliantly for young people and also provide much needed support to their families.

"This really does promise to be a fantastic occasion, and there really are no rules regarding what you can do to raise money as long as you get as many people involved, and spread the word! If you are planning to take part in ‘Just one Day’, please tell us about it, and who knows, we might even pop in to see how things are going on the day!"

Sharon Evans, Fundraising Development Manager at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation said:

“We are thrilled that the people of Leeds are getting involved in ‘Just One Day’, every penny raised will make a big difference to the experience our young patients have during their stay. Some children are with us for months and even years and the funds raised from Just One Day will provide a brighter and more stimulating environment and future for these children from across the region.”

Notes to editors:

Leeds Children’s Hospital is the second largest service for Children in the country and was created in April 2010 by bringing all children’s inpatient services together in one location at the Leeds General Infirmary, solving the issue of seriously ill youngsters having to be transferred across the city.

The range of specialised children’s services in Leeds that has evolved to meet the needs of the local, regional and national child population is extensive. Our children’s services admit over 30,000 children to our wards each year, we treat over 109,000 children in our outpatient departments and see nearly 60,000 children each year through our Accident and Emergency Department.
