Lord Mayor’s ‘Just One Day’ charity appeal returns for 2023

Lord Mayor of Leeds

The Lord Mayor of Leeds’ charity appeal ‘Just One Day’ event is returning on Friday 19 May, with everyone in the city encouraged to get involved.

The ‘Just One Day’ event, which is in its sixth year, aims to raise money for Leeds causes, with people spending a day or any amount of time they can spare, participating in fun activities in aid of the Lord Mayor’s chosen Leeds charities. This year, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Robert Gettings, has chosen four charities to receive funds from the appeal: Martin House Hospice, St George’s Crypt, Simon on the Streets, and St Anne’s Community Services.

From individuals to organisations big and small, everyone is encouraged to get involved and raise vital funds for these charities. There are no rules to how people can raise money and events do not need to take place on the 19 May, they can be planned for any time throughout the year.

Whether it is wearing fancy dress to work or school, organising a sponsored event, or even holding a bake-off, all ideas and efforts are welcome. The more fun, the better. Don’t forget to share your fundraising stories and activities on social media by tagging @LordMayorLeeds on Twitter or using the hashtag #JustOneDay2023.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Robert W Gettings MBE JP, said: “‘Just One Day’ is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in Leeds to come together, get creative with fundraising ideas and have some fun, whilst also raising money for four great causes in the city.

“Every penny raised will enable these charities to continue delivering their vital work here in Leeds, which includes hospice care for children and helping the homeless with food, shelter, clothing, and mental health support.

“Whether you decide to organise an event or just donate, please spread the word about the important work of these four incredible charities. I can’t thank you enough for your support.”
