Leeds Museums and Galleries object of the week- Guns n Roses tequila bottle

Museums and galleries

Recovered from the stage after a memorable Leeds Fest, this tequila bottle is now a piece of rock and roll history.

The bottle was found during the clean-up following Guns n Roses’ top of the bill performance at the 2010 Bramham Park showpiece.

It was discovered alongside a used Guns n Roses stage pass and a guitar string.

All three items were donated to Leeds Museums and Galleries that year and the bottle then went on display at Leeds City Museum in 2013.

Today the items are stored at the Leeds Discovery Centre, where they are part of the Leeds Festival Archive containing around 225 objects related to the event.

The first Leeds Festival took place at Temple Newsam in 1999 and featured a line-up including the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blur.

The event is twinned with the Reading Festival, with the same line-up appearing at both venues over three days.

Councillor Brian Selby, Leeds City Council’s lead member for museums and galleries, said: “We have artefacts in our collection which chart millions of years of world history.

“But it’s just as important that we preserve more contemporary exhibits which say something about the memorable people, places and events of today.

“In the future, those events will be part of history too and museum-goers will still be able to engage, connect and remember them thanks to objects like this.”

The Leeds Discovery Centre hosts a programme of fascinating tours and talks which can be booked in advance by contacting 0113 378 2100.
