New ‘Piggy Path’ opens at Temple Newsam

A new accessible footpath has opened at Temple Newsam, which connects the children's playground with the Home Farm entrance and stable courtyard facilities.

The new surface replaces the previous ‘desire line’, which despite being somewhat muddy on occasions, has proved to be very popular with visitors due to the fact that the rare breed pigs at Home Farm love to wallow in the field next to the path.

The Friends of Temple Newsam Park applied for grant aid from Grantscape and also provided some of the people power to install the new ‘Piggy Path’, leaning rails and new information boards, full of ‘piggy’ facts and figures.

The footpath is also accessible for wheelchair and pushchair users.

Sustainable Communities Improvement Programme shortlisted for an award

The sustainable communities improvement programme was shortlisted for the community award at the Yorkshire Evening Post Environment Awards 2015, which took place last week.

Leeds City Council’s £9m housing regeneration project which will see hundreds of properties in east Leeds become warmer and healthier has already started to be successful in improving the lives of the residents by creating a sense of community and improving the health outcomes for the residents.

Improvements to housing include significant energy efficient works to over 200 terraced and back to back properties. The programme is also supporting the Growing Together project which sees the creation of allotments to enable the community to grow its own food.

The programme is being delivered in partnership with Chevin and Keepmoat, with funding coming from Leeds City Council and the government’s Green Deal scheme, the Energy Company Obligation as well as private contributions.
