HUB spreads festive cheer in Holbeck

The popular pop-up HUB service is offering Holbeck residents the chance to win a hamper in the run up to Christmas.

Anyone visiting the specially designed bus today and on Wednesday 23 December between 10am and 1pm will be entered into a draw for festive food hampers and vouchers donated by Morrisons.

Supported by the local inner south community committee, the bus has been visiting the Recreations area to provide advice on everything from council tax, adult social care, anti-social behaviour, housing, benefits to help regarding debt problems and budgeting.

People can also get help to create a winning CV and covering letter, application forms and interview techniques for work and training opportunities.

Over 60 local residents have jumped on the bus for advice, with the jobshop service proving the most popular.

Experts from the council’s private sector housing team are also on hand to answer questions about property and a member of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team can discuss crime and prevention advice.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service have been offering advice on fire safety while Green Doctors can give advice on energy efficiency and saving money on your fuel bills.

Staff from Forward Leeds will be able to speak to adults, young people and families on how to tackle drug or alcohol problems.

Anyone who hops on board for advice or a chat will be automatically entered into the prize draw, with winners being selected on Wednesday 23 December at 1pm.

Councillor Angela Gabriel, chair of the inner south community committee said:

“The pop-up HUB service has been all about taking the right advice and support to the heart of our communities.

“Staff and our partners have welcomed lots of residents and there is still time to get on board with the added bonus of winning a festive treat.”

The pop-up HUB service started in September 2015 and forms part of the council’s Leeds Neighbourhood Approach, which aims to improve housing standards and conditions in the area, bring empty properties back into use, and make real improvements to the local environment and community.
