Housing Leeds launches consultation on a new Tenancy Agreement for council tenants

Leeds City Council is launching a major consultation exercise with its 57,000 tenants across the city.

The tenancy agreement is being reviewed to take account of changes in legislation, to make it easier to read and to respond to tenant feedback.

The council is seeking feedback on proposed changes to the tenancy agreement which include strengthening clauses relating to anti-social behaviour, parking, how tenants use their properties and keeping pets and animals in their home.

Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, said:

‘I am delighted to announce the start of formal consultation with our tenants on the proposed changes to the tenancy agreement.

‘We have listened to previous feedback from our tenants and are proposing changes to tackle the issues that matter to them the most. The proposals are designed to bring the tenancy agreement up to date and ensure all tenants know their rights and responsibilities so that tenants can enjoy their homes in peace and comfort.’

‘I’d encourage all council tenants to have their say on the proposals so we can take their views into account before drawing up the final version.’

The tenancy agreement consultation runs until Monday 12 March 2018.

The review does not affect tenants’ security of tenure and does not involve fixed term tenancies that have been proposed by the Housing and Planning Act 2016.
