Have your say on plans for new leisure and wellbeing centre and potential new school in east Leeds

Residents are being asked for their thoughts on a potential new leisure and wellbeing centre in east Leeds.

In addition a separate consultation about a potential new high school is being run in the area.

In order to avoid confusion between the two, necessarily separate, consultations meetings about the two issues are being held separately, with the final session about the school on 30 Oct (5-7pm) and meetings about the leisure and wellbeing centre being held Tuesday 31 October (11.30am-1.30pm) and Thursday 2 November (6pm-8pm).

This follows senior councillors of Leeds City Council’s executive board previously approving in principle a recommendation that subject to a public consultation and further investigative work, a new facility be developed on another part of the site which currently hosts the existing Fearnville Leisure Centre.

Leisure centre users and local residents can offer their views and express what mix of facilities they would like to see made available at the new centre either through email, or at a number of drop-in events. Held at Fearnville Leisure Centre, initial drop-in events will be available on Tuesday 31 October (11.30am-1.30pm) and Thursday 2 November (6pm-8pm).

Following conclusion of the consultation and an assessment of the feedback, the council will then potentially, move forward with the development of detailed designs and costings for the new facility. If agreed, work on site could begin as early as January 2019, with an estimated completion date of September 2020.

It is for this reason that we are continually striving to provide facilities that are not only of a high-quality but also affordable to people of all ages.

“We are excited therefore to be moving forward with a public consultation around a potential new health and wellbeing centre opening in east Leeds. Situated on a new part of the existing Fearnville Leisure Centre, this facility would provide the people of east Leeds with a mix of modern and state-of-the-art facilities.

“We want to hear what local residents and users of Fearnville think of the proposal either via email or at one of our drop-in events. This feedback will be invaluable to us in shaping and moving forward with this project.”
