Have your say about where you cast your vote in Leeds

People in Leeds are being invited to have their say about where they cast their vote in their local area, along with giving their views on wider proposals for parish and town councils.

Consultation opens today (Thursday 11 May) on the city’s joint polling district and community governance reviews. These will not affect the authority’s boundary, the boundaries of the eight parliamentary constituencies or the 33 city wards.

What may change however is the place where voting takes place and the catchment areas for those districts, along with the boundaries, the warding and other governance arrangements for parish and town councils.

The deadline for the first period of consultation is Thursday 22 June 2017, but due to the extra workload created by the general election, representations will not be logged until the week starting June 12.

The review of polling arrangements is taking place following the completion of an electoral review of ward boundaries for the Leeds City Council area by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England.

Polling districts must now be realigned to reflect the new ward boundaries. Matters relating to the current ward boundaries cannot be considered as part of this review.

Notes to editors: The new ward boundaries as recommended by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England and any changes to polling districts, places or stations as an outcome of this joint review will come into effect at the local government elections in May 2018.

Any changes to Parish and Town Council arrangements as a result of this joint review will come into effect at the Parish and Town Council elections in May 2019.

The council will consider all representations received for the joint review, including comments from the Returning Officer, and will publish initial proposals on 24 July 2017. A further consultation period will then begin on these proposals, running until 2 October 2017. Final plans will be agreed by the council sometime in October or November, with the publication of a Final Notice of Joint Review in November.
