Half-term fun in store at Leeds Museums and Galleries
An action packed programme of events will be keeping youngsters busy at Leeds Museums and Galleries this half-term.
Activities over the school holidays will include magic, monsters, arts and treasure hunting, with things to do at nine sites across the city.
Visitors to Lotherton Hall can dress up for a special Halloween Day, with Temple Newsam House and farm also hosting trick or treating in the dark.
Workshops on applying gruesome Halloween and special effects makeup will be taking place at Abbey House Museum or brave youngsters can explore Kirkstall Abbey, looking for vampires, werewolves, witches and wizards.
As well as Halloween activities, arty young people can get involved with celebrations for British Art Show 8 at Leeds Art Gallery by crafting and moulding clay or create a masterpiece and join in the world’s biggest drawing festival at Leeds Industrial Museum.
A treasure hunt with metal detectors will take place at Leeds City Museum and visitors can also discover a world of masks and masquerade at Leeds Discovery Centre or become an island explorer and investigate nature on the tiny island at Thwaite Mills Watermill.
Councillor Brian Selby, Leeds City Council’s lead member for museums and galleries, said:
“It’s wonderful to see there will be so much happening over half-term at Leeds Museums and Galleries and there really is something to keep everyone busy.
“As well as a full programme of Halloween events, there’s also lots of chances for young people to take part in arts and crafts and the great thing about our sites is that there are opportunities to learn and explore while also having fun.”
