Gyms are free for all for National Fitness Day
Active Leeds is opening the doors to all their gyms across Leeds on 24 September as they celebrate National Fitness Day.
Anyone will be able to access the gyms for free from open to close in an effort to encourage more people to get active.
Led by UKActive, National Fitness Day is the UK’s largest celebration of physical activity, this year highlighting the power of individuals and communities to take charge of their wellbeing through physical activity.
With nearly one in four people in England classed as inactive — doing less than 30 minutes of activity a week — National Fitness Day hopes to inspire millions to get moving and support the NHS by improving the nation’s health.
Active Leeds currently runs 16 leisure centres, 13 gyms and 13 pools, providing affordable memberships and a range of pay as you go discount options to ensure the people of Leeds can be active.
Many improvements to Leeds’ leisure centres have been made over the last few years, including refurbishing gyms in Scott Hall, Rothwell, Wetherby, Armley and Morley leisure centres and investing in new state-of-the-art equipment.
Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture, said: “Active lifestyles are so important in creating better health outcomes across Leeds, and it is crucial that as a council we ensure there are a wide range of affordable options for residents to keep fit and stay active.
“We’re hoping to see a lot of new people coming to our gyms on National Fitness Day, and our staff are always happy to help if someone feels nervous.”
