Go Orange and join Child Friendly Leeds Live Online - August 5
Free tickets are now available for this year’s online Child Friendly Leeds (CFL) Live event on Wednesday 5 August. Following the success of previous years, the children’s festival will return this year as a live-streamed event hosted by regular compere and former CBBC presenter, Alex Winters, plus performances from Leeds based BoomChikkaBoom, Rainbow Factory, DAZL and much more.
The annual festival, which usually takes place on Millennium Square, came about as a result of a competition in 2017, which sought ideas from Leeds’ children and young people on what would help to make Leeds city centre more child and family friendly. Due to the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the delivery team has had to find a creative solution in order to be able to host the popular event this year.
As well as the program of live stream performances, children and adults in Leeds will be asked to join in the fun and #GoOrange on 5 August by wearing, finding, creating or even baking something orange! Prizes will be awarded to the best #GoOrange pictures shared on social media using the hashtag. An online activity pack has been launched; full of fun activities and recipes to help people with their #GoOrange celebrations, and to keep families entertained all day. The activity pack can be accessed through CFL’s blogsite https://childfriendlyleeds.wordpress.com/cfl-live-goorange-activity-pack/.
CFL Live takes place on Playday, which is the national day for play in UK and is a reflection of CFL’s commitment to giving children the freedom to play and enjoy everyday adventures. If you’re visiting one of the fabulous parks in Leeds on 5 August, make your own adventure by searching for one of our #GoOrange posters to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize.
LeedsBID has confirmed that the Leeds Jurassic Trail will return to the city in summer 2021 with its incredible ‘live’ dinosaur trial. However, in support of #GoOrange the team is running a fun digital trail for all the family to take part in on 5 August. So if you have any budding dinosaur hunters in the family, make sure you get ready to track down eight orange dinosaur eyes across various Leeds city centre locations. Find all eight to spell out a word and enter the #leedsjurassictrail competition.
Councillor Venner, executive member for children and families said,
“I am thrilled that we are able to run our annual Child Friendly Leeds Live this year by hosting it as an online event. We are so grateful for the continued support of our fantastic ambassadors and partners who will feature in the day’s programme.
“Hosting the event on National Play Day is truly fitting, as it reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child has the right to play. On the day, activities will take place across the city as we ask everyone to #GoOrange, have fun and celebrate all of the amazing things that are making Leeds the best city for children and young people to grow up in.”
