Free family fun set to light up the Arium this half term

A feast of family-fun activities will be on offer at the Arium this February half term.

The newly located Leeds parks nursery will be host to two free fairground rides, children’s storytelling, a book swap and an exciting pancake bonanza in the café on Shrove Tuesday.

Supported by Leeds libraries, children’s story-telling sessions will take place each day at 10.30am, 11.30am and 1pm from Saturday 10 to Sunday 18. Sessions will be held in the corner of the café where kids can enjoy some of their favourite tales while relaxing among rugs, cushions and throws. There’s no need to book a place and those interested can just turn up.

To compliment the story-telling, the Arium will also be hosting a ‘leave one, take one’ book swap for visitors of all ages.

Finally, a daily arts and crafts programme will run as usual and scrumptious pancakes and a selection of toppings will be served in the café on Shrove Tuesday.

Also available at the new facility that opened its doors to the public last October, is an onsite shop and outdoor picnic area offering a welcoming and fun environment for all visitors to enjoy.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment and sustainability, said:

“We have been delighted with the response from the public to the opening of the Arium, and it is wonderful to watch the growth and transformation of our new state-of-the-art horticultural nursery quickly become a firm favourite in the city and local community.

“The February activities taking place during half term, which will include free craft sessions, children storytelling and even a Shrove Tuesday pancake bonanza is a great opportunity for all the family to have fun whilst also enjoying the amazing horticultural offer at the Arium.”

Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, said:

“These children’s story-telling sessions are a great initiative from Leeds libraries, showing that you don’t have to visit a library to feel their benefit. I hope everyone visiting the Arium this February half-term has a fantastic time.”
