Flood Advisory Service ‘on the spot’ with support for homes and businesses in Leeds

PRESS RELEASED ISSUED ON BEHALF OF THE FLOOD ADVISORY SERVICE, GARFORTH FLOOD SUPPORT GROUP AND LEEDS CITY COUNCIL 

Following the recent devastating storms across Yorkshire, where over 2200 properties in Leeds alone were flooded, teams from Leeds City Council, Garforth Flood Support Group and The Flood Advisory Service have been working together to ensure homeowners and businesses can easily access the advice and information they need at this difficult time.

The Flood Advisory Service is a ‘not for profit’ organisation providing FREE Independent advice on practical flood mitigation solutions where it matters most, at the heart of at risk communities.

Getting the flood mitigation message to these communities is not a problem for the Flood Advisory Service team who literally bring their 40ft, state of the art Roadshow Trailer to the heart of the community.

That’s exactly what will be happening in Leeds next week when the FAS Roadshow will spend three days in Leeds city centre from Tuesday 19^th January to Thursday 21^st January.

Visitors can expect a step by step approach to managing their flood risk. The FAS trailer incorporates a series of flood risk checkers, information on all Kitemark product manufacturers, plus a sample range of Kitemark certified products such as flood doors, anti-flood airbricks etc. The end-to-end service is complemented by visitors being able to access their local Flood Professional who is certified to survey and install property level protection measures.

The Roadshow will also comprise a wider Flood Fair event, organised by the Garforth Flood Support Group, with events being co-located outside Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds Town Hall. The fair will feature presentations and talks on flooding and its impact, while officers from Leeds City Council will also be on hand offering guidance and details on the financial support available to those impacted by the floods.

It only took a phone call to Leeds City Council and they, along with Garforth Flood Support Group, wasted no time in making arrangements. This is a great example of how when we all work together we can achieve a common goal”

Leader of Leeds City Council Councillor Judith Blake said:

“There are still lots of people in the city struggling with the aftermath of the terrible floods, so we are very pleased the Flood Advisory Service is bringing its roadshow to Leeds to help give people advice and guidance and also to raise awareness of the things any property owner can do to help make their properties more resilient.

“We are also very grateful to the Garforth Flood Support Group for offering to be part of the roadshow and fair, giving their support and first-hand experience of how people can recover from floods which will hopefully provide some help to anyone affected by flooding in Leeds and beyond.”

The Flood Advisory Service roadshow outside Leeds Art Gallery will be open in Leeds from 12noon-7pm on Tuesday 19 January, 10am-7pm on Wednesday 20 January and 10am-4pm on Thursday 21 January. The supporting flood fair in Leeds Town Hall will be open from 12noon-5pm on Tuesday, 10am-4pm on Wednesday and 10am-4pm on Thursday.
