Exciting new Spanish partnership launches in Horsforth

Horsforth Music Centre, together with Instituto Cervantes, has launched a new package of Flamenco and Spanish language classes on Saturday mornings.

Professional Dancer Luisa Galan, who has trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and the Conservatoire of Dance in Cordoba, Spain, has joined the team of professional music and dance teachers at the centre to deliver high quality instruction in the amazing Spanish art form.

There are different sessions for children, adults, beginners and improvers and the dancing is accompanied by live flamenco guitar.

Councillor Lisa Mulherin, executive member for children and families said: “This is a fantastic example of the wide range of classes available at our music centres. Attending a music centre is not only about learning how to play an instrument or how to sing; it can help children grow in confidence as well as helping people of all ages make new friends and meet people from different backgrounds and from across the city.”

Head of Centre Alex Wibrew says “We are very excited to have this partnership. Working with Instituto Cervantes means we can offer an authentic Spanish experience to our members and feedback from students in the first week was amazing. We can’t wait to add Spanish language classes to the offer as well.”

Jose Maria de Miguel Gaytan de Ayala from Instituto Cervantes says: “We are delighted to work with ArtForms to bring Spanish language and dance to the community of Horsforth. Particularly, we’re excited to bring these opportunities to children and families.”

The Horsforth Music Centre is based at Horsforth School on Saturday mornings. The centre (operated by ArtForms – Leeds City Council music and arts service) offers music and dance tuition across a broad range of instruments and styles. Open to children and adults, beginners, improvers and experienced players and dancers; the centre prides itself on a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for families, children and young people and older musicians and dancers. The centre offers a crèche service, instrument hire and also has a café bar – a great place to meet people over a coffee. Lessons start from £5 and bursaries are available for children from low income families. The centre enrols throughout the year and it’s easy to book onto classes and try them out on a Saturday morning.

ArtForms, the music and arts service for Leeds City Council, runs seven community music centres across the city which meet every Saturday in term time, in Seacroft, Horsforth, Rothwell, Morley, Wetherby, Alwoodley and Guiseley. The centres offer tuition, bands, orchestras and choirs. The music on offer is of broad range and is open to all ages and abilities.
