Enjoy the fun of ‘Clubbercise’ at Trinity Leeds on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is once again set to be celebrated at Trinity Leeds with a fun-themed aerobics event.

Undertaken as part of the city’s successful ‘Leeds Girls Can’ initiative which aim is to encourage more people to become fit and active, women of all ages are being offered the chance to take part in and enjoy a very special ‘Clubbercise’ party on Thursday, March 8 from 6pm-8pm. Described as a fusion of dance, toning and combat moves, Clubbercise is famed for its exercise classes in a darkened room setting accompanied by disco lights, LED Glow sticks and a soundtrack of old and new club hits. Suitable for people of all fitness levels and experience, all that is needed to take part in the event which will be held on the ground floor of Trinity Leeds, is comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear. To get the party started, the first 50 participants to arrive on the day will also receive a pair of Clubbercise glow sticks! This event follows a Zumba class held last year at Trinity Leeds to mark International Women’s Day, which proved to be extremely popular.

Supporting the event on the day and offering a wealth of advice and support will be ambassadors from the successful Leeds Girls Can initiative. Over 600 women are currently taking part in Leeds Girls Can activities across the city, with 61% of those participating, identifying themselves as inactive before enrolling.

Organised by Leeds City Council, Trinity Leeds and This Girl Can, this free Clubbercise event is one of many classes to be held across the city by partners on International Women’s Day. Councillor James Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive member with responsibility for sport, said:

“The response last year to the first exercise themed activity to mark International Women’s Day at Trinity Leeds was absolutely fantastic, and we are really looking forward to another great turnout at this year’s Clubbercise event.

“We want to encourage people of all ages and experience to enjoy sport and exercise, and Clubbercise is certainly a unique and fun way in which to encourage more people to participate in an atmosphere of club hits and glowsticks!

“With partners we will also be offering a wide selection of other free activity-based activities across the city on International Day through the Leeds Girls Can initiative, which really are not to be missed.”

Dan Wharton, marketing manager at Trinity Leeds, said:

“Hundreds of women took part in last year’s event – we had friends, families, schoolchildren, office workers and grandmas all getting involved. The atmosphere was fantastic and we’re sure we’ll see the same incredible level of support for this year’s International Women’s Day.

“It’s all about bringing people together, and it’s completely free to take part so come down and give it a go!”
