East Leeds’ flats plagued by anti-social behaviour closed by council

Three council flats in east Leeds have been closed following repeated instances of anti-social behaviour by tenants.

Full Closure Orders were secured at Leeds Magistrates Court for 106 Seacroft Gate, 60 Seacroft Gate and 52 Brooklands Towers after action led by the Leeds Anti-Social Behaviour Team (LASBT), Leeds City’s Council’s housing team and West Yorkshire Police. This follows a range of anti-social behaviour by three tenants who would meet up and congregate at each property. Complaints included fighting, rowdy drunken behaviour and intimidation of other tenants.

As part of the closure order, all three properties will now be closed, up to three months with the tenants only allowed pre-arranged supervised access to retrieve their belongings. The tenants have now also had to find alternative accommodation.

Councillor Mark Dobson, Leeds City Council’s executive board member with responsibility for Safer Leeds said:

“I am pleased that through the hard work of LASBT, members of our housing staff and partners, we have managed to close these three flats blighted by anti-social behaviour by tenants.

“Their behaviour was completely unacceptable and I hope that in securing these closure orders it sends out a clear message to others who think they have the right to make the lives of other people a misery in this way that it will not be tolerated, and all tools at our disposal will be used to stop it.

“I would urge anyone who is suffering from any type of anti-social behaviour to contact our dedicated LASBT team immediately.”

Superintendent Sam Millar, who heads Safer Leeds, said:

“The quality of life of local residents was being really badly affected by the behaviour of tenants at these flats in Seacroft, and it is good news that by working with closely with partners, we been able to take firm action through the courts to secure three closure orders.”
