Don't miss out on Springtime Babies and Rare Breeds weekend at Home Farm

Young animal lovers are in for a treat this weekend, as the annual Springtime Babies and Rare Breeds event weekend opens its doors at Temple Newsam Home Farm. 

Held on 16 and 17 May, staff will be on hand over both days to guide youngsters as they are given the opportunity to help with both the feeding and handling of the farm’s wonderful wide range of animals that includes over 400 sheep, cattle, pigs, poultry and goats. 

Spring is always a magical time to also see an array of cute new arrivals at Home Farm, and there will be the chance to see close up, chicks, lambs, calves and piglets.

On Sunday, rare breeds of poultry and sheep are also set to be on display at the farm, including Winston the giant Zwartble ram.

Taking residence in the joiners shop over both days is wool expert Debbie, who will be showcasing her hands-on crafts.

As always the mini-play tractor and playground on site will be available to keep the youngsters entertained after they have seen all the animals. 

Councillor Mark Dobson, Leeds City Council’s executive member for cleaner, safer and stronger communities said:

"Home Farm is somewhere that all the family can enjoy, and we are delighted to be holding again the brilliant Springtime Babies and Rare Breeds event next weekend. 

"On offer will be the chance to feed and handle some of our wonderful animals with the help of our brilliant staff and enjoy on Sunday the visit of a range of rare breeds, poultry and sheep."

Notes to editors:Temple Newsam is a great place to take the family for half term with something for everyone including plenty of open space to explore, play and picnic.

The Stable Courtyard Tea Room is open daily serving light meals and snacks, while Mrs Pawson’s Shop also in the stable courtyard is a great place to buy Yorkshire produce.

Home Farm offers the opportunity to explore life on a real working farm and meet some extraordinary characters.

Over 400 sheep, cattle, pigs, poultry and goats are at Temple Newsam, and there is also the chance to enjoy traditional crafts or take part in demonstrations such as butter making and blacksmithing.

Home Farm is open 10am until 5pm (summer hours) Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday inclusive. Last entry is 45 minutes before closing.Tea room open 10.00-5.30 Saturday and Sunday, 10.00-4.30 Monday to Friday
