Deadline approaches to share your thoughts on a proposed new special free school in Headingley

Parents, carers and local residents are being encouraged to share their views on a proposed new special free school in Headingley. Those interested have until the consultation period ends on 16 December to have their say on the proposal.

What is being proposed is the creation of a new 150-place special free school using existing school facilities at Rose Court in Headingley. The site is currently used for nursery and pre-prep provision, which is set to move to The Grammar School at Leeds’ Alwoodley Gates site in summer 2020.

The new school, which would open from September 2021, would help the city meet the growing demand for specialist school places.

To further help support this demand, the proposed school would, in the future, offer 50 partnership places to enable students of local mainstream schools to access and benefit from the specialist facilities at Rose Court.

Councillor Jonathan Pryor, Leeds City Council’s executive member for learning, skills and employment, said:

“We know that demand for specialist education provision is growing throughout the city, and this proposal will help us meet that need to ensure all children can access the best possible education moving forward.”
