Council cleans up with fire station contract

council workers will be keeping the city’s fire stations clean and tidy after
winning a hotly-contested contract.

Cleaning staff
from Civic Enterprise Leeds will be working at all 11 of Leeds’s fire stations,
seeing off stiff competition to do the job for at least the next three years.

The council also currently
holds the contract for cleaning the windows at all 48 fire stations across West

Council’s executive member for neighbourhoods, planning and personnel

significant and much-sought-after contract and I’m very pleased that we’ve been
able to secure it once again.

“The work of Civic
Enterprise Leeds allows us to employ the skills and expertise of council staff, helping us to creatively generate valuable additional income at a time when we
are facing increasingly stringent budget pressures.

determined to remain competitive, innovative and enterprising.”

Established in 2013, Civic
Enterprise Leeds is a company limited by shares and wholly-owned by the council.

more than 3,000 staff, it allows the authority to trade its commercial and
enterprise services externally to non-public bodies.

offered by Civic Enterprise Leeds include catering, cleaning, fleet and
property services and facilities management.

They recently won a contract with the ambulance service
to deliver non-emergency passenger transport and also run a seven day hot
community meals service, which delivers
an estimated 124,000 meals every year to more than 500 people around the city.

clients include schools, council departments, neighbouring authorities, police and
a number of national fleet operators and property contractors.



Civic Enterprise Leeds, which is the
trading arm of Leeds City Council, operates without council subsidy and
provides a wide range of commercial activity in the city including facilities
management, catering, property and fleet maintenance.
