Consultation launched on more school places for North Leeds

A consultation to expand a primary school in north Leeds has begun today.

Moor Allerton Hall Primary school in north Leeds currently has a reception intake of 60 pupils or 2 forms of entry (with 30 pupils to a class). Proposals brought forward by Leeds City Council are to permanently expand the school to an intake of 90 pupils or 3 forms of entry.

Previous proposals had suggested merging the school with Allerton Grange school, which it shares a large site with, to form an all through-school with a 4 forms of entry in the primary phase . However in response to concerns from some parents and the school’s leadership about timings and the scale of change this amended proposal is now out for consultation.

Pressure on school places in the area has been felt for some time, and a range of permanent and temporary expansions of other local schools have been part of a solution. The council now feels the time is right to look at a permanent expansion of Moor Allerton Hall Primary school to ensure more local families have access to places in the future.

Andrew Eastwood, Chief Officer for Learning Improvement said:

“We are bringing forward this proposal to provide additional school places in north Leeds as part of our ongoing programme of work on school places. I would encourage all those who have an interest to respond to the consultation and share their views.

“Since 2009 we have provided an additional 1600 reception places across the city to meet increasing demand as part of our ambition for Leeds to be the best city to live and grow up in.”
