Consultation for new school site extended

Leeds City Council is extending the consultation on potential sites for a free school in the Roundhay area by two weeks. This will now end at midnight on Friday May 12^th.

This is in response to requests from residents and other stakeholders for more time to fully consider the issues around each potential site and due to the fact that we are unable to publish the outcome of the consultation during the General Election period.

The consultation, being run by Leeds City Council in partnership with the Education Funding Agency and the Roundhay Park Primary school trust, was due to end at 5pm on 28 April but will now run an additional two weeks until 12 May.

Extending the consultation will not delay progress of this matter, as the responses will be collated and the outcome of the consultation will be passed to the EFA for consideration as soon as we would be able to within the Civic Service guidelines, after the general election on 8 June.

Steve Walker, director of children’s services said:

“Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of the General Election, local authorities are bound by guidance based on the Civic Service Code that means that we could not report the outcomes of the consultation until after the election. It is therefore sensible to extend the consultation period to allow greater consideration of the issues by parents, residents and the city.”
