Consultation begins on providing more secondary school places in north Leeds

A consultation starts this week on providing more secondary school places at Benton Park school in Yeadon.

Following a stakeholder engagement event in the area at the beginning of June more formed proposals to increase the size of the school by 55 pupils per year group, from 245 to 300, have now been bought forward.

Parents, pupils, residents and the wider school community now have the opportunity to further contribute to these proposals. Additionally a series of drop in sessions will be held at the school to enable conversations with council officers about the scheme.

Cllr Jonathan Pryor, Executive member for learning, skill and employment said:

“Over the last ten years we’ve seen pressure on primary school places as the number of school age children increased. We’ve provided over 12,000 new places in response to this across the city but now these children are at or are preparing to go to secondary school. We are now beginning to bring forward proposals to increase secondary places across the city and this consultation is part of this work.”

The current phase of consultation will run until Friday 27 July

NOTES;

Years 7 to 11 would increase from 245 per year group to 300

Years 12 to 13 would remain as they are

Over all the school would grow to 1500 pupils in years 7 - 11
