Children’s services in line for top awards

Services supporting children, young people and families across Leeds are in line for five prestigious industry awards.

Leeds City Council’s Children’s Services have been shortlisted for five Children and Young People Now Awards.

Children and Young People Now is the only dedicated magazine for professionals working with children, young people and families. Children and Young People Now is a leading publication for practitioners working in the sector.

Now in their thirteenth year, the awards provide a great source of recognition for those who work in Children’s Services all over the UK.

The awards offer an opportunity to raise awareness of projects and initiatives to the public and others in the industry.

The five out of 24 categories Leeds Children’s Services have been shortlisted in are:

  • Recruitment and Professional Development – The social work career pathway (shortlist of 3)
  • Family Support – Multi-Systemic Therapy (shortlist of 7)
  • Early Intervention – Innovation and Partners in Practice Programme Restorative Early Support Teams (shortlist of 8)
  • Play award – Leeds Play Streets (shortlist of 4)
  • Youth Volunteering and Social Action – Leeds Young People’s Peer Inspection Group (shortlist of 7)

Cllr Lisa Mulherin, Leeds City Council’s Executive Member for Children and Families said: “It is wonderful to have so many nominations at these coveted industry awards, as it demonstrates the recognition that Leeds is getting for the great work our Children’s Services are doing in the city.

“Our aim is to make Leeds a Child Friendly City and even to be shortlisted in all of these categories is a real credit to the dedicated professionals and volunteers who work tirelessly day-in, day-out to improve the lives of children, young people and their families.”

The awards are a way to communicate some of the learning and best practice from projects at the forefront of delivering services for children and young people.

They also provide an opportunity to raise the profile of the sector to government, political and funding supporters, and the general public.

Senior representatives from the council will attend the awards ceremony which received record number of entries. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on November 21.
