Chance to have a say on new planning policy for historic Holbeck Urban Village
A six week public consultation on new planning guidance for Holbeck Urban Village, one of Leeds’ most historic and exciting regeneration areas is due to end on Friday 29 April.
People are being urged to have their say on the draft Holbeck Urban Village Supplementary Planning Document which aims to continue the transformation of Holbeck Urban Village into a great place to live and work.
Councillor Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive member for regeneration, transport and planning, said:
“Holbeck Urban Village is a key part of the whole redevelopment of the Leeds South Bank, one of the biggest and most exciting development opportunities in Europe.
“Our vision for the Village is to create a vibrant, mixed-use development area, while also protecting its unique historic character.
“We want people to have their say on how this unique area develops and ensure its further regeneration and revitalisation.”
The new SPD document will reflect important changes to national and local planning policy and current market conditions. If adopted, it will provide crucial information and guidance for planning officials when considering future development proposals for the area.
The new HUV Supplementary Planning Document will replace the previous HUV Revised Planning Framework which was agreed in 2006.
The draft SPD extends the previous boundary for the area to include sites south of Sweet Street. These sites are important because of their closeness to Temple Works and their role in connecting Leeds City Centre and the urban village to Holbeck and Beeston.
The new Supplementary Planning Document will also expand on relevant policies within the wider Leeds SPD and inform all development proposals for the area. Once adopted, by law, any decision on an application for development in the area will need to consider the SPD.
