With a new season of the epic Game of Thrones back on television screens later tonight, Leeds libraries is ready to celebrate in style this Saturday.
In what promises to be something not to be missed for lovers of the award winning books and TV show, ‘Room 700’ in Leeds Central Library will be transformed into a medieval market-style place as part of a very special ‘Thrones and Tomes: Westeros is coming!’ event. Held on Saturday 22 July from 12noon-4pm, fans will have the chance to discover more about the myths, legends, weaponry, books and real-life history that have inspired the hit fantasy.
Tickets are priced at £3, but for those who are eager tie their ‘GOT’ house colours to the mast, there is the chance of free entry to the festivities if they come in costume. Judges will also be keeping their eyes peeled for the best costume, with the winner crowned as the king or queen of Westeros.
Providing refreshments on the day will be Inkwell Arts, who will also be paying tribute to the show’s ‘The Wall’ in the form of a cake!

“The return of a new season of Game of Thrones is always a huge occasion, and we are very excited to be hosting our very own ‘Thrones and Tomes: Westeros is coming!’ event this Saturday.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the range of influences behind Game of Thrones in the setting of our very own Room 700 which for one day only will become its very own medieval market-style place!

Room 700 is a multi-use arts space based on the first floor at Leeds Central Library. ‘Room 700’, which through its name pays homage to the 700 section in the Dewey Decimal Classification system where a book on the arts in any library offer somewhere where people of all ages and interests can enjoy a diverse range of activities and events. The library is working in partnership with groups including Opera North, the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Northern Ballet amongst others, to ensure the programme at Room 700 remains both fresh and exciting.
Featuring in Room 700 throughout the year are exhibitions, talks and family-friendly events that will sit aside a tailored programme providing visitors with the chance to discover new authors and celebrate literature and the published word. Selected artists in residence will also as part of the library’s Arts Council funded arts programme, be running workshops, giving talks and even offering members of the public an opportunity to watch their work during their time in Room 700.
