Care services to be showcased at marketplace event

Visitors to Kirkgate Market this Thursday can get their bargain shopping and, thanks to a one-day marketplace event, also find out about social care support in Leeds.

Organised by Leeds City Council, the 'Find out about social care' event will take place at the market on Thursday 12 July. It will showcase a range of established and innovative approaches to adult social care in Leeds and provide advice to people on how to find the right kind of social care support and services for them, their friends and their family.

Around 40 stands will be on offer from a wide range of organisations, from community-based groups, charities, private-sector and third-sector social care support, as well as staff from Leeds City Council’s adult social care and public health services.

Visitors can hear how the council is working with private and public-sector organisations to develop new approaches to adult social care, including tackling isolation and loneliness, improving people’s all-round health and wellbeing and helping them to live a better life, more connected to family, friends and their local community.

Councillor Rebecca Charlwood, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adults and health said:

“As situations happen and circumstances change in our lives, it’s important for people to know where to go for the right kind of support – and that includes knowing about services for family members and friends, as well as ourselves.

“The ‘Find out about social care’ marketplace event is a good way to get advice and information for people with care and support needs, so they can learn more about the services on offer in the city.

“It’s also a chance for people who are involved with delivering those services to learn more about each other, and the other great things going on in our city.

“We work closely with a wide range of organisations and people providing fantastic local services and this event is a great opportunity to find out about recent developments and improvements in adult social care.”

The ‘Finding out about social care’ event takes place on Thursday 12 July at Leeds Kirkgate Market from 11am to 3pm.
