Brutus Gold returns to get Leeds back onboard the Love Train

The legendary Brutus Gold was back in Leeds today as the city gets ready for the return of the Love Train this summer.

The 70s icon brought his eye-catching Dodge Charger to Millennium Square, with members of his team teaching the people of Leeds to do The Hustle ahead of their much-anticipated live performance on the square on August 10.

One of the most popular club nights in the city’s history, the Love Train is set to take over the square with a unique retro spectacular.

The incredible show, which began life at the former Town and Country Club, features an entourage of dancers and performers, meticulously dressed in funky polyester shirts and show-stopping flares

The likes of Chad Valley, Disco Dick, Tony Martini, Willis Hardy Freeman, Ana Glypta, Clarence Hamilton Jnr and Angel De Lyte will all join Brutus on stage to make it a night to remember along with a special appearance by former Rose Royce lead singer Gwen Dickey performing some of their iconic hits live including Car Wash, Is it Love You’re After and Wishing on a Star.

Leeds based DJ Steve Luigi will also be going back to his disco roots to help get the party started as part of the evening’s entertainment.

The Love Train ran for several years between 1993 and 2000, bringing a night of huge disco anthems to Leeds and welcoming around 500,000 people in its original run.

Over the past two decades, Brutus Gold and his Love Train have performed for the likes of Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Tina Turner, as well as even putting on a show for Inter Milan at Italy’s biggest stadium, the San Siro together with regular events in Manchester, Newcastle and in recent years returning to Leeds for a Christmas special in its spiritual home at the 02 Academy.

Organised in partnership with Leeds City Council, the event take place on Friday, August 10 with doors from 6.30pm and entertainment starting from 7pm.
